Ed Westcott, Oak Ridge icon

girlscouts.jpg
One of my favorite photographs by Ed Westcott, a 1951 picture of Girl Scouts on a field trip near the Graphite Reactor.

The Dept. of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration are hosting a celebration for Ed Westcott's 90th birthday. The event will be held Jan. 30, 4:30-5:30 p.m., at the American Museum of Science and Energy, 300 South Tulane Ave.

Westcott, the government's photographer during the World War II Manhattan Project and subsquent years, is an Oak Ridge icon and definitely a nice guy, too.

The public is invited.

Following the Westcott celebration, there will be a viewing of the first episode of a four-part Y-12-produced documentary titled, "A Nuclear Family," in the museum auditorium.
