Brenda Hunter has new role as liaison between U.S./U.K. nuclear weapons facilities
Brenda Hunter, formerly of Y-12, has been named to the NNSA's newly created position of liasion between the U.S. and U.K. nuclear weapons facilities.
"In this capacity, Hunter advises the NNSA's Defense Programs Assistant Deputy Administrator for Stockpile Management and provides technical oversight of multiple international technical exchanges within the nuclear weapons enterprise," NNSA said in the announcement. "In particular, she serves as liaison between the U.K. Atomic Weapons Establishment and the U.S. nuclear weapons production plants (including Y-12)."
The federal agency said Hunter, a B&W Y-12 employee on detail assignment to NNSA, plans to have a structure in place for the production plants that's similar to the one set up for NNSA labs in collaboration with the U.K.
When Hunter was at Y-12 she served as director of internal audit. She initially went to the NNSA headquarters in Washington as a liaison from Y-12, coordinating information related to the Oak Ridge plant with the Defense Dept. and Congress. Since then, she has served as science advisor in the NNSA's Office of Defense Programs.
In a statement, NNSA Deputy Administrator Don Cook said Hunter would strengthen the relationship between the plants in the U.S. and the U.K.. "It is important the U.S. maintains positive relationships with the U.K. while implementing President Obama's nuclear security agenda," Cook said.
