Welcome to the NNSA Production Office
The NNSA Production Office (NPO) is responsible for contract management and oversight of the Pantex Plant, Amarillo, Texas, and the Y-12 National Security Complex, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Steve Erhart serves as the NPO Manager, which was established in June 2012 and replaced the former Pantex and Y-12 Site Offices.
The Pantex Plant is responsible for nuclear weapons stockpile life extension programs, nuclear weapons dismantlement, the development, testing and fabrication of high explosive components, and the interim storage and surveillance of plutonium pits. The Y-12 National Security Complex supports the Nuclear Security Enterprise through nuclear material processing, manufacturing and storage operations and nuclear nonproliferation activities and provides enriched uranium feedstock for the U.S. Navy.
Work on the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) High Explosives Pressing Facility at its Pantex Plant, located near Amarillo, Texas, this month passed the 85 percent construction completion mark and is on schedule and under budget.
The National Nuclear Security Administration today announced plans to extend the boundary fence at the Y-12 National Security Complex along Scarboro Road. The new fence is expected to be in place by April 4.
The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has awarded a contract to Siemens Government Technologies, Inc., (Siemens) to construct and operate the federal government’s largest wind farm. The Pantex wind farm, a first in the NNSA enterprise, will consist of five 2.3 megawatt turbines located on 1,500 acres of government-owned property east of the Pantex Plant.

The Y-12 National Security Complex has taken additional steps to reduce its energy costs by installing almost 100,000 square feet of new heat reflective “cool” roofs at the Oak Ridge, Tennessee facility.
